VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Meat Loaf – ‘You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth’

May 13, 2017

Is it really almost 40 – count ‘em! – years since the release of Meat Loaf’s planet-straddling album ‘Bat Out Of Hell’?

It sure is, so this seems as good a time as any to go back to that album’s first single release.

Of course it’s easy to call ‘You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth’ over-blown, pompous and even adolescent simply because it is all of those things.

But those are precisely this song’s strengths; this is where rock’n’roll becomes theatre, theatre becomes drama and (melo)drama is exactly what pumps and pulses all the way through this.

Resistance is futile, and you know it.
