Scouting For Girls – 15 Years of Everybody Wants To Be On TV!

April 12, 2025

The second album from pop-rockers Scouting for Girls, it was over a year in the making after the band scrapped their initial work. Claiming to be perfectionists, they set out to pen “the perfect pop song.” Released in 2010, we’re celebrating 15 years of these big, radio-friendly gems!

This Ain’t a Love Song

The opening track and first single from the album, this optimistic break-up anthem was a UK number one and later certified platinum! The music video was shot at London City Airport showing the full scale of departures emotions, putting a spin on the usual generic arrivals scenes.

Famous

The inspiration behind the album’s title, this song was written as a celebration of reality TV and pop culture. The second single from the record, the band first performed it to a “girl-only audience” at Girlguiding UK’s Big Gig at Wembley Arena in 2009.

Posh Girls

Full of cheeky lyrics, this buoyant bop was inspired by a conversation frontman Roy Stride overheard on a bus. Talking about the song, he said, “It’s supposed to be a fun number that people can jump around to at gigs. We tackle subjects like that with a knowing wink.”

1+1

With its ska-indebted drums and bassline, this album track takes a pop at the consequences of a one-night-stand. With lines like, “Three months later on the phone I’ve got your dad… He’s got the hump, you got the bump,” it’s a fertile shot of the band’s infectious humour!

Everybody Wants To Be On TV

While writing Everybody Wants To Be On TV, Roy said that he wanted to create “an album of ten singles.” With big pop choruses, instant hooks and unique lyricism, the record went on to be certified platinum in the UK, and 15 years later it’s still as much fun!
