VIDEO OF THE WEEK: BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE – ‘E=MC2’

January 13, 2020

Formed by Mick Jones after his departure from The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite were a band way ahead of the curve.

Fusing rock’n’roll with hip-hop, reggae and the nascent sample culture, the band embraced contemporary underground styling while pointing the way forward.

Yet for all that, Big Audio Dynamite were quick to acknowledge their influences.

As evidenced by the lyrics and samples used in ‘E=MC2’, as well as this video directed by the band’s Don Letts, the work of idiosyncratic film director Nicolas Roeg – ‘Performance’, ‘Don’t Look Back’ and ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’ – informs what is arguably Big Audio Dynamite’s most famous song.
