VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Bill Withers – ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’

October 1, 2018

What with those evenings drawing in, Bill Withers’ classic 1971 breakthrough single seems an appropriate choice for October to kick off to.

Inspired by the 1962 Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick-starring movie ‘The Days Of Wine & Roses’, ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ was written by Withers while he was still working on a production line as an assembler for the aircraft industry.

Originally produced by the legendary Booker T. Jones of the MGs, this stripped-back reading is taken from the groundbreaking TV show ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ and packs as much of a punch as the original.
