One of Depeche Mode’s biggest global hits, ‘Personal Jesus’ was the lead single from the group’s seventh studio album, ‘Violator’ and their first gold-certified single in the US.
Although it wasn’t the first time the band had featured guitars, the instrument had never been so dominant.
Helping to propel the song to its international success is this video by Dutch photographer and director Anton Corbijn.
‘Personal Jesus’ was his first colour video for Depeche Mode and one that draws inspiration from Sergio Leone’s celebrated ‘spaghetti westerns’ to create an image that lingers long in the imagination.
