A UK Christmas No.1 for Elvis Presley in 1962, this single bears a number of distinctions.
Firstly, it’s the only song used in an Elvis Presley movie – in this case ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!’ – where the script was re-written to accommodate the song, rather than a song being written to fulfill the demands of the script.
Secondly, it was also the very first Christmas No. 1 single in Ireland, as the charts there had only been established in October 1962.
And finally, this classic clip was directed by Academy Award-winning director Norman Taurog, who directed Elvis in more films than anybody else.
His other Elvis movies were ‘GI Blues’ (1960), ‘Blue Hawaii’ (1961), ‘It Happened At The World’s Fair’ (1963), ‘Tickle Me’ (1965), ‘Spinout’ (1966), ‘Double Trouble’ (1967), ‘Speedway’ (1968), and ‘Live a Little, Love A Little’ (1968).
