Do debut singles get any more exuberant than this stomper from JoBoxers?
Riding the wave of the nouveau soul style that was coming to dominate the UK charts at the beginning of the 80s, JoBoxers came together when four of the band – guitarist Rob Marche, keyboardist Dave Collard, bassist Chris Bostock and drummer Sean McCluskey – were running a second-hand clothes stall.
American frontman Dig Wayne was running his own and their shared interest in fashion and pop resulted in the distinct sound and look that permeates this energetic video set in a traditional London pie-and-mash shop.
Little wonder that it went Top 3 in 1983.
