VIDEO OF THE WEEK: KING – ‘LOVE & PRIDE’

September 16, 2019

Formed from the ashes of Coventry ska almost-rans The Reluctant Stereotypes, 80s new wavers King were named after their singer Paul King.

The band were just as well known for their outsized mullet hair-dos and spray-painted Dr Martens boots as they were for their music.

Though short-lived, ‘Love And Pride’ became King’s biggest hit and reached the lofty heights of No. 2 in the charts after its re-release in 1985.

Helping propel the single past its chart competition is this colourful video that sees the spray paint go way past the DMs and onto anything with a surface.

It’s appropriate that Paul King became an MTV VJ after the band’s demise.
