It’s easy to forget quite how groundbreaking, not to mention commercially successful, these neo-psychedelic Britpoppers were. ‘Tattva’, reached No. 4 in the UK singles charts in 1996 while the parent album, ‘K’, became the fastest-selling debut album in Britain.
This swirling, multi-coloured video for the single is as clear a visual representation of what Kula Shaker sound like as you’re likely to find.
An instance where sound and vision coalesce into a single experience that takes a journey to the centre of the mind, this is a treat for eyes and ears that’s simultaneously utterly of its time and yet totally, like, timeless?
Oh, and if you’re still wondering, that’s “Tattva, acintya bheda abheda Tattva.” that frontman Crispian Mills is singing, which loosely translates as, “Truth, mystery, difference, non-difference, truth.”
So now you know!
