Twenty-three years to the week since its release as the first single from Manic Street Preachers’ ‘Everything Must Go’, ‘A Design For Life’ remains every bit as potent as it did then.
A meditation on class conflict, the video highlights these struggles as it juxtaposes the Manics performing against scenes of strife, advertising slogans and literary quotes.
The director, Pedro Romhanyi, also helmed promos by Super Furry Animals and Primal Scream, among others.
Peaking at No. 2 in the UK charts, ‘A Design For Life’ was the first of five consecutive top 10 hits for Manic Street Preachers.
