Achieving hilarity with a measure of profundity is no easy feat.
But ‘Time To Pretend’, the debut single from MGMT, manages this high-wire balancing act with a confidence that never feels smug.
Directed by Ray Tintori – who would also helm the video for ‘Electric Feel’ – this multi-coloured visual feast comes on like a psychedelic cross between William Golding’s allegorical 1954 novel, ‘Lord Of The Flies’, and Alejandro Jodorowsky’s controversial 1973 film, ‘The Holy Mountain’.
Yet for all its daring use of colourful and often surreal imagery, the video for ‘Time To Remain’ is as much fun as it’s possible to have without resorting to criminal means.
