Initially available only as an import single, ‘Bankrobber’ became a Top 20 hit for The Clash in 1980 after fan fervor merited a domestic release.
The premise for the video is simple enough, with The Clash ensconced in the studio as they lay down their parts, but it’s the guest appearances that are of interest.
Taking his place at the controls is ’16 Tons’ tour support and Jamaican artist Mikey Dread, who worked closely with the band on the song’s creation.
Also playing a part in the literal subplot are roadies Johnny Green and Baker who, according to Clash legend, were stopped and question by the police who were suspicious of their bandanas.
