A real curio in The Kinks’ back catalogue, ‘Mr Pleasant’ was originally released only in the US and mainland Europe.
The song didn’t actually see the light of day at home until six months later as the b-side of ‘Autumn Almanac’.
Which is all rather bizarre given the single’s typically English music hall sound.
This clip, taken from the popular German TV pop show ‘Beat Club’, has The Kinks not only looking dandy in all their Carnaby Street finery, it also contains some rare footage of Ray and Dave Davies actually smiling at each other!
