Exploding from the dark days of power cuts and the three-day week was this utterly irresistible blast of glam rock.
Fronted by the feathercut-sporting singer Brian Connolly and backed by guitarist Andy Scott, bassist Steve Priest and drummer Mick Tucker, The Sweet led a merry and glitter-smeared teenage rampage across an increasingly drab and dreary landscape.
Written by Nicky Chann and Mike Chapman, the poet laureates of glam rock, ‘The Ballroom Blitz’ topped the charts in Canada and peaked at No. 2 in the UK, US and the Netherlands.
More recently Tia Carrere covered the track in ‘Wayne’s World’. Party on.
