Time to head back to the time of double-necked guitars, Rod Argent’s instantly memorable keyboard riff and singer Russ Ballard’s truly magnificent hair.
Formed by Rod Argent in 1969 after the collapse of his highly influential band,The Zombies, ‘Hold Your Head Up’ was written by Argent and his former bassist, Chris White.
Taken from Argent’s third album, ‘All Together Now’, ‘Hold Your Head Up’ was a massive transatlantic hit in 1972. Reaching Number Five in the US charts, it sold over one million copies.
This is one of those rare moments where pop meets progressive rock to create a record that crosses over to both audiences, and it’s one that stands the test of time.
