VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Dave Brubeck Quartet – ‘Take Five’

December 4, 2017

On the week of what would have been Dave Brubeck’s 97th birthday, it’s entirely apposite that we should pause to celebrate his considerable talent and luxuriate in one of the most famous jazz standards ever committed to posterity.

Composed by the group’s saxophonist Paul Desmond, ‘Take That’ is the highest selling jazz single of all time.

Even at a remove of almost 60 years since its original release, it’s easy to see why it remains as popular now as it was then: Brubeck’s two-chord, vamp, Joe Morello’s skittering drums and irresistible solo, Eugene Wright’s solid bass and, of course, Paul Desmond’s infectious saxophone riff. Sit back and enjoy!
