VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Eurythmics – ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’

March 26, 2018

They’re one of our finest, most eclectic and endlessly inventive pop duos.

So choosing just one song to represent the work of our Artists of the Month, Eurythmics, was always a tough call.

But if Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart can be said to have a signature tune, there’s a strong case to be made for this.

The title track to the breakthrough second album, ‘Sweet Dreams…’ was the song that made Eurythmics a commercial and cultural force to be reckoned with, hitting number one in the US, pioneering Lennox’s androgynous style and revitalising its parent album on both sides of the pond.

Centering around Lennox’s flame-haired dictator – and taking in everything from desktop meditation to impromptu animal husbandry – the video remains a masterwork in stylised stream-of-consciousness.

By our reckoning, it’s been watched by about 30% of the planet so far…
