VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Gladys Knight & The Pips – ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’

August 12, 2017

Originally released in 1973, Gladys Knight & The Pips’ version of ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ took eight weeks to climb to the top of the US charts, deposing none other than The Rolling Stones’ ‘Angie’ from pole position.

Unsurprisingly, it won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo, Group Or Chorus. Though it’s been covered by artists as diverse as Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin and Joan Osborne among others, this is the version that we always come back to. And rightly so; just one play of this definitive version and you’ll soon see why.
