VIDEO OF THE WEEK: HERBIE HANCOCK – ‘ROCKIT’

November 27, 2017

Having worked with the likes of Miles Davis – where he helped redefine the role of the jazz rhythm section as well composing classics such as ‘Watermelon Man’ and ‘Cantaloupe Island’ – Herbie Hancock’s credentials were well established.

But with the 1983 hit, ‘Rockit’, Hancock went on to make a major contribution to the emerging electro scene. A major chart and club hit in the UK, this video remains incredible and was directed by the visionary duo of Kevin Godley and Lol Crème, formerly of 70s pop masters 10CC.

Little wonder, then, that the video picked up five MTV Video Awards in 1984, including Best Concept Video and Best Special Effects.
