The Isley Brothers’ take on ‘Summer Breeze’ is that rarest of beasts – a cover version that is considered more definitive than the original.
Originally written by singer-songwriters Jim Seals and Dash Crofts, whose own version peaked at Number Six in the US singles charts in 1972. But these days it’s The Isley Brothers’ 1973 interpretation to which we most frequently turn.
Just check out those three-part harmonies from Ronald, O’Kelly and Rudolph Isley – and also younger brother Ernie on guitar – to see why.
