40 Years of Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’

It has been 40 years since Eurythmics released their ICONIC second album, ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’. Featuring a series of hit singles, the album marked the arrival of Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox back onto the international music scene.

The album saw the duo move away from the psychedelic, guitar-tinged band-oriented sound of their 1981 debut album, ‘In the Garden’, instead focusing on raw analogue synthesisers and drum machines. The leading single, ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart in September 1983, and also reached #2 on the UK singles chart. The album reached #3 in the UK Album Chart on the week of its release.
