The Best Vinyl of January
January 17, 2017
You got the new turntable you wanted for Christmas but now you need to start building that amazing record collection you always dreamed of.
Luckily Legacy has you covered with a whole host of great releases coming up in 2017, starting off with some bona-fide classics and cult gems from January & February.
Meatloaf – Bat Out Of Hell
The second album and major label debut from Meatloaf is nothing if not a musical behemoth. His partnership with composer Jim Steinman yielded an album of theatrical odes to rural suburban teenage angst that is as potent today as it was in 1977 and of course includes the classic rock staple that is Bat Out Of Hell.
Pressed on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl this re-issue is definitely one for the collection. Go on, 43 million fans can’t be wrong!
Sly & The Family Stone – Stand!
Featuring the singles Everyday People & Stand! with the b-side of I Want To Take You Higher, Stand! marked a high point in Sly & The Family Stone’s career, both commercially and artistically. It would later be included in the top 500 records of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine and was considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for inclusion in the National Recording Registry in America.
This re-issue is pressed onto a single 180 gram heavyweight black LP.
TLC – CrazySexyCool
A genre blending classic from one of the finest girl groups of all time, CrazySexyCool redefined modern R&B adding a harder Hip-Hop edge, paired with deep funk grooves to take the group to new heights.
Featuring the massive hit Waterfalls, CrazySexyCool rightly earns its place as one of Rolling Stones’ 1001 albums you must hear before you die. Pressed on 180 gram heavyweight black vinyl.
Bob Dylan – The Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3 (Rare and Unreleased 1961 – 1991)
Unavailable on vinyl since it was originally released in 1991 to satisfy the ever growing demand for Bob Dylan’s much bootlegged but never officially released material, The Bootleg Series Volume 1-3, contains a plethora of rare and unreleased material from the first three decades of Dylan’s career.
From alternate takes to unknown studio recordings, there are 58 songs across 5 LPs. Now re-issued on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl with a 36 page booklet of photos and studio notes, The Bootleg Series 1-3 is perfect for anyone looking to delve deeper into the catalogue of arguably the greatest songwriter of modern times.
Depeche Mode – Music For The Masses
The album where Depeche Mode got serious despite the joke title, Music For The Masses presented a darker, edgier and dirtier band than the one that had gone before. From the opening industrialised stadium-ready clout of Never Let You Down Again to the purposeful synth string dirge of Little 15; Gore, Wilder and Gahan had begun to perfect the song writing formula that would allow them to conquer America and position Depeche Mode as one of the leading post punk synth pop bands in the world.
Pressed on single 180 gram heavyweight vinyl Music For The Masses is a must have for anyone with even a passing interest in electronic music.
