David Cassidy is at No. 1 in the UK singles chart for the second week running with the double A-side, ‘Daydeamer/The Puppy Song’. Did you know that this was the 10th best-selling single in the UK in 1973?

Many happy returns to the A Flock Of Seagulls’ finely coiffured frontman Mike Score. A former hairdresser, his skills came in handy when devising the unique image that helped pave the band’s road to international success!

Jefferson Airplane play the opening night of legendary San Francisco venue the Fillmore West. Other celebrated artists to play the venue include Santana and Janis Joplin. Check out this incredible live, outdoor version of ‘The House At Pooneil Corners’ from the same year.

Despite splitting in 1970, Simon & Garfunkel become the longest residing act in the UK album charts when ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ notch up an incredible 367 weeks between them. In other words, that’s a total of just over seven years!

The history of popular music is altered forever when Mae Boren Axton plays Elvis Presley a demo of a song she’d co-written with Tommy Durden called ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. The track becomes his first single for new label RCA Victor and becomes his breakthrough song. Things will never be the same again…
